also, since we are starting over with this issue lets go back to what beemerphile is saying. Take your Ford to the dealer or call with the vin and come up with the actual towing capacity. Start there. A trailer hitch bolted on later is not the same as a tow package. I may have missed it but lets start there and then build off accurate info.
