Nope, in another thread you said that you do NOT have the towing package. That means you are limited to either 1,500 or 2,000 pounds depending on the model. The empty trailer is already at or near your limit. Add some accessories like the awning you mentioned plus LPG and battery and you are heavier than the tow rating. Now add 500 to 1,000 pounds of water, food, clothing, and gear and you are substantially over the tow rating.
BTW, you can make improvements to the towing ability but you cannot ADD A TOW PACKAGE, it either came with it or didn't. No manufacturer publishes exactly what makes up the tow package.
Not saying you cannot do it, just be aware that you will exceed the tow rating.
FWIW my tow rating is 1,500 and I regularly tow 2,000 but it is also low profile.
The smaller Aliner or Chalet would be perfect behind the Escape.
What do you mean I can't add a tow package? That's what they are for! The Ford towing manual for the 2008 Escape says if you add the towing package you can tow up to 3500 pounds. Why would Ford lie? I could see a trailer company lying to sell a trailer but why would the official Ford Towing Guide lie?
