Not trying to slam teardrops at all. And I have tent camped in everything from very small one man tents ( I've done a lot of motorcycle traveling/tent camping ), to very large field tents that had a wood ceiling beam running it's length. To me, anything I can't stand up straight in, have a dry bath in, cook and sit in comfortable chair in, is, "not much more than a tent".
To each his own, but in this case, the OP may be seeing these things with stars in her eyes, because it "looks to be something she can pull with her Escape".
At the end of the day, or at then end of being cooped up inside a small space during a rainy season, it's appeal could wear thin.
I don't need a lot of space, I know a teardrop will be enough for me with the extra tent added on too. I will be only it in to sleep and cook, unless it's raining. I have always spent most of my free time sitting on a couch barely getting off it (and at work I sit on my bed since I only have a small bedroom) and i'm 100% fine with that. Besides, when i'm camping, I will go swimming, go for walks, just sit outside, I don't need a lot of space.
