Sure. I lost 1mpg unloaded, and gained almost the same towing. Totally worth it for the performance gain even if I didn't gain any MPG towing.
4.30's are a factory option from Ford, in that truck, with the same 6 speed and same 6.2L V8. To increase tow capacity.
Steeper gears are a common option from the factory to increase tow capacity.
Seems pretty clear to me.
