If you used the truck for nothing but towing, I'd suggest 4.10s. To get some mileage, in everyday use, 3.73s would IMO, be the best option, and make a very noticeable improvement towing.
If you do the gear change, let things wear in a little before hard use.

I have a lot of hotrod friends but most are like me; old and just wanting to pay to have it done. The guy I met today is young and still enjoys wrenching on cars and trucks.
My plan is to spend 3 to 6 months here and 3 to 6 months there as I travel mainly in the southwest and west Texas. I just don't like having my foot in it with the truck struggling up hills and against winds. I've seen some articles that say the gas mileage difference between 4.10 and 3.73 is negligible. I live in Texas so with 75 and 85 mph speed limits, will the 4.10 get my RPM's way up there?
