Here is what I've found...
1. Larger diameter E tires will have a smoother ride as it rolls over a RR track/etc. Noise is the result of the type of tread.
2. 18" E tires are very expensive and not many sizes are available compared to 16".
3. 17" wheels and tires is a good option.
4. You have a 454 engine so going from a LT245/75 to a LT 265/75 with new 8" aluminum wheels won't affect towing performance like it does with a smallblock.
Larger diameter wheels/tires look good but can be a power killer for a low powered tow vehicle.
