The above was written in "tongue-in-cheek" font! - burningmanExplorer IIWhile I’m a Honda guy myself, I have to say some of the off-brands work pretty well and are quiet.
I still think the Honda will outlast them and parts availability is better.
Some off-brands have a hard time actually producing their full rated power and Hondas will usually deliver a bit more than their rating.
And I hereby put forth the notion that Honda EU2000s are the CHEAPEST sets to own.
A coupe years ago, I decided to see if I could sell my 12-year-old well-used pair.
They did still work perfectly. I put ‘em up for $700 each, and sold the pair to a guy for $1400. Then I ordered myself a brand new pair from Mayberry’s for $1800.
That means it cost me $400 to run two EU2000s for twelve years!
If they hadn’t still fetched a good price I’d have kept them, there really wasn’t anything wrong with them, twelve years later. - towproExplorer

Where I live here in Wyoming, A/C up in the mountains is not a necessity so it really depends where we are camping whether I need it or not. The few times I have used the generator for A/C it has worked just fine.
One thing about a portable one though is I can use it for other things outside of just camping.
Location is the difference. We always camp right off the Atlantic ocean in North Carolina. very Humid and always hot :) - WyoBullExplorer

That definitely holds true for Honda generators,
I need to cry twice. I want a 2nd one.
I find I really only use mine when I need AC.
with one powering the polar cub AC (on eco) the Honda 2000 is running at a pretty good RPM. But I think if I had 2 generators running, the RPM's would be lower because each generator is supplying 1/2 the power requirements, thus the total noise level will be lower.
back to the OP, right now Honda has a sale going on.
$100 off, plus an additional $100 mail in rebate if you use a Honda credit card. (no interest for 12 months if you charge over $500)
valid 10/5/17-12/3/17
I hear you on that one. Air Conditioning when my wife wants to use her blow dryer etc. is the only time I really have used the generator so far with the camper. It is great to have as backup however even if you don't use it a lot. ....the Champion Power Equipment No.75531i 3100 watt inverter generator ($780) is in the same dBA range as the Honda ($976) / Yamaha ($1454) / Hyundai ($560) / Westinghouse ($699) / Generac ($799) / and WEN ($849) 2000 to 2400 watt units: 58dBA at 23 feet. All the other generators range from 53dBA to 60dBA. They all have very impressive ratings from 4.1 to 4.6 out of 5 from Generator Advisor 2017 best portable generator reviews :) - towproExplorer

shows Honda sync with inverter.
Also according to the guy who fixes my small engines, "you can hook any inverter generator that has the ability to sync, to any other inverter that has the ability to sync, no mater who manufactures it or what the output is.
