You definitely have a leak. I turned on my water system several days ago. After it pressurized, I turned off the pump. I checked today and the pump did not activate when I put the switch to on.
Over the years, I have had some leaks. First the seals on the old pump started to ooze. Next the value on the water hook up started to leak, probably from frost damage. Several times I have had slow leaks on the water heater drain plug. I finally got a new plug this year instead of just using a lot of Teflon tape.
