The back up camera is indepentant of the nav system. With the LTZ package, I get the upgraded dash, stereo system, touch screen display, rear camera, etc. The choice is whether or not to have the navigation system. Everything else is the same. Still can't see having it built in is better than going with an external aftermarket Garmin.

The only reason I\ have navigation in my Suburban is for the large screen for the backup cam. It was worth every penny for hitching up in one shot. As for navigation itself, I pretty much rely on Google Maps for Mobile on my smartphone.

Go aftermarket in dash nav with backup camera. It's a heck of a lot cheaper and a better product.

If I do a build of a 2014 Silverado on Chevrolet.com, the system without the navigation is included in the LTZ package, but if I add navigation, its an additional $795. I can't believe in the long run it would be worth that much.

Ordering, and deciding whether its worth the $700 additional.

I could get a Garmin for cheaper, and I'm thinking I could get more frequent, reliable updates with the Garmin. At least, that's our experience with the Honda. The plus to having it built in would be I wouldn't have a GPS unit out in the open, and cords running across the dash.

Did you order the navigation and rethinking, or did you not order the navigation and rethinking?

I had a 2014 Sierra without navigation, but used OnStar turn by turn. I have had navigation in the Intellilink radios, and felt that they were very good.

I appreciate them being built in.

Your dealer should have a 2014 1500 that they can loan for you to test drive. Could see if they have one with NAV.
