Chevy 1500 4 cyl TURBO

Yes, a 4 cyl gas engine in a full sized truck.

video

310hp @ 5600 RPM and 348tq @ 1500 RPM

Compare that to my last GM truck, an 06 with a 5.3L which was what.....305hp/335tq? Wow.

We have been spoiled with low gas prices so people have not cared about mileage in a while. Ford cutting out most sedans to focus on SUV and trucks that use more fuel. GM is following somewhat and I don't know about Chrysler. Soon to be flooded with complaints about the price of fuel. In the past many have dumped their fuel guzzlers for more economical models but may have a hard time finding them. I look at fuel prices and lack of economy as a price to pay for the hobbies I have and not blaming the oil companies. I am speaking mainly of the general population and not members of this forum.

One thing you can be assured of is that fuel will continue to rise with occasional lows. How do the reports I read a few weeks ago that American reserves and production now exceed Russia and Saudi Arabia yet fear of U.S. and Iranian relations create a crisis. The stock market is always looking for the doom and gloom scenarios.
  • Watch this video starting at 2:50 as it show's how the cam slide to change to a different cam lobe. Also the cams are a two piece design that can adjust cam lobe on two cylinders or four cylinders.

  • wasn't that long ago that the 5.7L 350 only put out 190HP, and a 2.5L was only good for 90-100hp. Amazing what power they get out of current gas and diesel engines.

The 5.3 competes with Ford's 2.7, GM 2.7 competes with the 3.3 liter.

That turbo engine competes with Ford and Chryslers base engine.
  • Watched the tfl video, read all those comments as well.... not sure about this engine yet... I don't like the fact that the top of the line trucks will get the 6.2 and no others will. That engine should be available in the mid series as well. But that's how they make money...anyway will see what this engine does on the towing. Still looking forward in seeing the HD models and potential engine choices in the future, even thought I can't afford one..lol
  • Exciting times we live in today.

There were three engine options for my Fusion. Maybe there is four now.

I am excited to see where the payload and tow ratings land for this truck.

    Thanks!

  • I'm most interested in seeing how it compares to Ford's 2.7L V6. Awesome times we live in!
  • Thx for posting. Pretty exciting news about this new 2.7 liter, turbo 4 engine, which I was not aware of at all. The Chevy engineer said it was new engine from the ground up. At first I wondered if it was based on the older GM Atlas truck inline engine series, DOHC, 2.9 liter 4, 3.7 liter 5 and 4.2 liter six. This was a great truck engine series that albeit award winning, died on the GM vine.

Apparently this 2.7 liter turbo 4 is different engine architecture. Impressive specs, looking forward to a fast lane truck, towing test.
