- mtofell1ExplorerAll of the big 3 HD trucks are looking more and more alike. The 2014 Ram trucks look very similar to the 2015 Chevy/GMC and the shape of the Ford isn't too far off.
Don't get me wrong.... I think they all look nice but 5 years ago that were all much more distinct from one another. - RobertRyanExplorer

Yes they invented the market. Seems strange in the US, but common knowledge outside. - RedskyExplorerThe double cabs first appeared on the mini trucks where the extra space was much needed. They were in use in the overseas markets for more than 10 years prior to their introduction into the US by the Japanese auto companies.

NOPE, you're not the only one ... I nearly cried when it was time to buy a new truck, and found out it's not in the designs.
We looked for a 2013 with Ext Cab doors, but could not find one equipped like we wanted ... not many left either.
SO, we bought the Double Cab 2500HD ... It's OK and shorter than the CC version ... but not as "pretty" - IMO ...
I believe the doors are the same size and the interior appears exactly the same size - the seats and all. I think GM only changed how the doors hinge, and added the doorpost in the middle. - SpknTCExplorer

So you are saying they copied RAM Quad Cab/Mega Cab configurations? Chris
No - they stole it from Toyota that called it a Double Cab. ;)
GM wanted to make sure that the change to the door was noticed. Therefore, the marketing department made the change to call Double-Cab. :C
VW called them double cabs also! - DadoffourgirlsExplorer

For those that don't know the difference between a crew and double cab for GM trucks, the double cab is the new extended cab of yesteryear..
Both cab configurations have normal doors.
The extended cab name was dropped, the suicide style doors were replaced with normal doors, the cab was lengthen and the new name is "double cab"
The crew cab was enlarged too.

GMC copied the idea from Chevy, and in turn Chevy stole the idea from GMC. - Me_AgainExplorer III

That is what I bought in 2011 and the rear doors fold all the way back flush with the truck which makes access much better. I also had to get the 2500HD to get the extended now double cab with the short box as it was not available with the 3500HD trucks. Not a big deal as I added a pair of SuperSprings and now have the same payload capacity with my Duramax truck.
