Not quite an equal comparison. Electric motors have been around for close to 200 years and yet are still not the mainstay of personal transportation. I'm sure a couple more years is all we need. "Technology" isn't able to advance vehicle propulsion at nearly the same rate as electronics and wireless communication.
As for cell phones, my first larger Motorola lasted a day or two on a charge. Guess how long my smartphone lasts?
We'll get there but not at the rate so many are promising.
