None of the battery swap pilot trials evolved into anything. The charge times are quite reasonable now and most just time them to breaks or lunch. You can’t walk away from a gas pump when you are fueling but with an EV car you can just wander off and have lunch. The car sends you an email when it’s full or you can just track it on your app.
Herein lies the challenge with EV trucks. The batteries will be quite big and the average charge times probably closer to an hour vice 20 minutes. That would probably be fine for me as that’s not much longer than a standard lunch break for us. Probably too long for some though.
Then again. 95 percent of the time people will charge their trucks at home just like their cars. And at a small fraction of the cost.
But... but... the Mr Magoo's are saying campgrounds will not provide the circuitry for EV charging in-site? LOL
If those are the challenges, then I'm directionally going for EV for tow-truck replacement.
Hm, no pocket-busting fill ups.
Currently camp grounds don’t provide diesel or gas either. At least with an EV you can pay the fee, plug in your EVSE and the next day when you get up you are ready to go. Plus during your stay you don’t have to look for gas while you are enjoying the area. Charge at night at the campsite. Probably a good revenue stream for camp grounds willling to put in the extra 50 amp connection on the site.
