Chevy Tahoe - 09 and Later

I'm thinking about buying a Chevy Tahoe. I want the 09 or later because of the 6 speed. It will be used. Were there only 2 axle options - 3.08 and 3.42? Obviously I would want the 3.42. How do I determine if it is a 3.42 when I am checking the vehicles out at the dealer?

Anything to consider about this vehicle? The Suburban is too big to fit in our garage. Our third row won't be used that often but we want the third row.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks. I didn't know the 6.2 was an option on the Tahoe - I thought it was only on the Yukon Denali?

Are you happy with your Tahoe?

Yes, very happy with the Tahoe. 65,000 trouble free miles. Never been back to the dealer. The 6.2L in a Tahoe is very rare. In fact, mine is the only one I've seen. I searched far and wide for it and found it about 150 miles from my home. This is my 3rd Tahoe. I had a 1999 5.7L and a 2003 5.3L. While they were both comfortable and handled heavy trailers from a weight standpoint, they had no power. I had a V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee that would pull better than either one of those. That's why I had to have the 6.2L in the next one. It can pull and I don't see that my gas mileage suffers at all with the bigger motor.

I found these codes on another forum for transmissions and it was for the 2010 model year.

    GT5 Rear axle, 4.10 ratio
    GT4 Rear axle, 3.73 ratio
    GU4 Rear axle, 3.08 ratio
    GU5 Rear axle, 3.23 ratio
    GU6 Rear axle, 3.42 ratio

If you look at the code label in the glove box you will see dozens of codes. If you see one of these it will tell you which rear end.

I pull a Jayco 25RKS with an '09 Tahoe with the full trailer package and 6.2L engine and 3:42 rear end. There are a series of codes on a placard in the glove box and one of those codes denote the rear end. Sorry I don't recall the codes but if your search you can probably find them on this site. With the 6 speed in tow mode it holds in 4th gear most of the time unless you are on flat ground or downhill and then it may upshift to 5th. If I recall correctly it runs about 2700 rpm in 4th.
