I have a Edge box on my '03 Dodge/Cummins 5.9 305/555 HO NV5600 truck. Its just a 40 hp/80-90 torque programmer for towing and one of the first that Edge made available for the new HPCR engine. I can't say I picked up any mpgs but it sure woke the HO up in the 1600-2000 rpm range in OD pulling 10k-16k GN trailers.
The truck has 221k miles now and no issues. Lots of internet myth/stretching actual usage issues when programmers are brought up.
Check out a couple of the Dodge truck forums such as cumminsforum.com or tdr.com or dieseltruckresourse.com and others for more input on a specific programmer. Some are mild like my old Edge for towing duties and some are for hot roddin' and huge hp/torque increases.
Most programmers come with a EGT gage but if it doesn't be sure you install one. I use the dual gage Westach (boost and EGT). Very handy to drive with for best mpgs and as a diagnostic tool for the engine.
