There are a few things you need to consider. Being that you are in Australia and most likely out of warranty coverage you can probably do whatever your wallet will support. Adding most any performance modification will affect the emissions equipment. Most programmers will create more soot and will clog the stock DPF. That will need to be removed. There are sensors there that will have to be bypassed and the programmer should do that. For US citizens to get that they have to sign a waiver with the vendor stating the vehicle will not be operated on the road. I believe after the EPA got done with the aftermarket vendors they will be watching out for the ones signing the waivers. Once again, that may not apply to you in Australia. The other modification you will need to make is to remove and block off the EGR system. That too has sensors that will have to be bypassed and the programmer should also take care of that. All of this is not too difficult and the parts and programmers are available from several vendors.
I had considered doing this to my vehicle but now with the EPA enforcing the law I don't think that will happen. I wasn't so much looking for added power as I was wanting to get rid of the problems with soot build up in the intake and turbo and the eventual clogging of the DPF. I have 75K miles on my 2008 6.7 and have had no major problems with the ERG or DPF. I did have a couple soot alarms but cleared them and started using the exhaust brake all the time and hauled heavy more often. My problem now is that the transmission is not upshifting and there were metal shavings in the pan when the fluid and filter were last serviced. Looks like the trans is going to have be pulled and gone through and a new torque convertor with multiple disks installed. I'm pretty sure hauling my 5K camper on the twisty turns of HWY 1 last month were probably more than what the stock system was meant to handle. But the drive was worth it and with this repair hopefully the rig will be good for many more years.
