Robert,
What are these cute little trucks used for... it's to small to carry a weeks groceries for the two people that would barely fit in the cab.
I've seen lawn mowers with more robust wheels and tires.
Photos can be deceiving They have a 4.5 Litre Diesel, preferred tow tugs in the outback, "The Miners friend" US Pickups do not have the reliability or strangely overall Off Road/Towing/Payload capacity.Remember US HD Pickups are either RV Towers or Lifestyle vehicles not in any shape or form Work vehicles.
While the trucks in these pictures are cute and probably some what affordable I'd question their ability to haul and worry about their ability to brake with the loads your pictures show.
One picture shows 6 wheels on what appears to be a 1/4 ton truck... is that for load or for braking?
If there are more than 2 humans where do they safely ride... do they have to travel in a second vehicle? There would be a safety issue from the poor to no braking that these set-ups provide. I would think that your laws (regulations) would require seat belts for each occupant and limit passengers from riding in unsafe ways.
I can understand why people would be desperiate enough to drive them. Not many of the people that I know in North America could afford to purchase full sized 3/4 or 1 ton vehicles for US $100,000 or even more. (The annual taxes for licencing in some states would be prohibitive)
Can anyone imagine putting Seriff Dougs new Lance 1172 camper on one of these... this camper is made for a 1 ton dually... or an even bigger truck.

BTW... I like Toyota... my wife and I have a 5 passenger grocery getter that averages 54.6 mpg... it is built to be as light as possible and very aerodynamic. While I wouldn't attempt to tow a trailer with it... it will haul 5 adults comfortably for a couple of hours and it also has a lot of cargo space for luggage or groceries.
There are many 10 to 12 year old models still on the road and functioning properly. We see a lot every day... they are not all new (just as sheriff doug didn't say that all of the big 3 trucks that he saw as he crossed Australia were new)
It does exactly what it is designed to do and we don't pretend that it does anything else. As a bonus... it seems to irritate quite a few drivers... is it the mpg... or the fact that it's so cute?
It is a 2008 Prius.:B
