Cig. lighter fuse location and type (no. of amps) etc

My outlet for cigarette lighter (2005 Dodge Laramie diesel 2500 5.9l) stopped working. DW and I don't smoke but use the outlet to recharge GPS and other similar items.

Should you know the exact fuse type (no. of amps) plus where it is hidden?

  • Well, no body told him he had to open the door to get into the glove compartment.
  • I did do as mkirsch said and looked in the fuse box under the hood. Replaced fuses and all is good. Thanks mkirsch. bb
  • Wow. Okay, you go with that. Have fun tearing apart the truck looking for that inline fuse that doesn't exist...

Seriously, the fuse is right there where DirtyOil's picture shows.

If you still can't find it, take the truck to a mechanic.

    Very handy device.
  • That's all warm and inviting. There's a direct feed from the battery to the power outlet(s). Me thinkx!! Those leads (two) may contain 'in line' fuses - me hopes! Once I get the fuses - I'll let 'ye all' know. Again thankx for the h e l p. bb

I did check on the dash board - driver's side. Still unable to find anything inside; i.e. such as a 'panel' or similar fuse box. Under the hood is the only place I can find anything showing a "fuse and relay" label. It wouldn't be there - par chance?? bb

Why don't you lift the cover off and look? Nothing is going to spring out at you.

The truck's owner's manual also describes where the fuse panels are, how to access them, and what the functions of each fuse are. The owner's manual is generally located in the glove compartment of the vehicle. The glove compartment is in the dashboard on the passenger's side, generally at or above knee level when sitting in the seat.

If you do not have an owner's manual, it is a wise investment. They can be ordered online or from your local Dodge dealer.
  • the fuse box is located at the end of the dash board,(on the side of dashboard between the dashboard and door) reason why you have to open the door, there is a door on the end of the dashboard that you have to "pull" off. on the back side of that door is the "diagram" and list of fuses.

  • open drivers side door, on the side of dash board there is a fuse box pull the cover off. on the inside of the cover is a list(diagram) of fuses, the cig lighter will be labelled "power outlet", the cig lighter and power outlet share same fuse. I believe its a 20amp fuse.
