Class B Towing Vehicles

Any one have a good Class B Towing Vehicle that could easily pull a 12,000lb. trailer?

  • That's a heavy trailer to pull in addition to any kind of living area. An F450 or F550 plus a slide in truck camper is probably the closest you're going to get without buying a toterhome.

Even most class A or super C motorhomes are limited to 10k.
  • All the full sized vans are going away that had good cargo and tow capacities, so I know of no new Class B's with more than 7500 lbs of tow rating. Cutaway vans and trucks are still available, but many have RV frame extensions (Class C) that limit towing to around 5000 lbs. There are Super C class RV's, but most of those are big and adding a big trailer behind them may get you in to length issues.

We have a truck camper so we can tow a large enclosed trailer. Even with my F250, I was able to load up a camper with a slide and still tow a 20' cargo trailer. With my 5500, we are looking at multi slide truck campers and may eventually tow a stacker.
  • About your only option would be a a Ford E350 van with a lightweight camper conversion from somebody like Sportsmobile or Van Specialties. If you want a larger camper body (aka B+) then it opens up the possibility of using a E450 chassis, which will still allow a fuller camper build-out and have enough capacity for that much trailer. Turtle Top is one company that builds custom campers on the E450, however some of the other Class B builders bight be willing to special order a build on an E450.
  • I have a Pleasure Way Class B and it has a towing capacity of 3500 lbs.

About the only vehicle it could pull would be a smart car.

  • I looked at a couple of B's. Got to remember most of the "cargo capacity" was used up in the conversation. Some built on a Sprinter type frame will have some tow capacity but the hitch weight is limited to about 750#. This would not be near enough for a 12,000# trailer. I've seen them pull some small TT's (5,000# loaded) but nothing as large as what you want.

I have not looked at all of them but they are not normally "tow vehicles". People get them so they don't need to tow a toad and can just slip in and out.

    Good luck with your search.
  • I don't know of any Class B RV, that has that kind of capability.
