Class C rear ends a Ram 3500 Mega Cab

This 1990 Class C pulling a car on a trailer rear ended my Ram 3500 while I was stopped at a traffic light. The impact pushed me into a stopped F150 in front of me. Driver of Class C said they lost all brakes. Impact was approx. 20-25 mph. I had three kids in back and one in front. Minor injuries. TG for a one ton frame and seat belts.

  • I had the same thing happen years ago, the kid was watching cops clear off another wreck. If your frame is bent and it likely is the truck will probably be written off.
The mh is certainly going to be mechanically inspected, the driver will likely be charged with driving without due care (probable) or operating an unsafe vehicle (possible).
  • "Driver of Class C said they lost all brakes."

The chances of losing ALL brakes are between zero to two percent. I don't believe that driver.
  • So sorry to read all this and glad your OK.
I suspect your truck is totalled at this point - and it was a nice truck!
    Best of luck to you.

    Scott
  • The truck was running after impact, but was grinding when moved out of traffic. The force of the impact pushed the bed into the C pillars in the cab and creased both sides. The front bumper of the Ram hit the hitch from the F150 and pushed front bumper in about 6 inches. Towed on flat bed. The small Weber grill I was carrying in the bed with other luggage became a flying missle. Lesson learned. The cooking grates came flying out after impact and struck the metal strip right below the back glass where kids were sitting. The other grate hit the center of my Reese Triton Hitch and snapped off the "Reese" name plate and twisted the plate it was mounted on sideways. I was on the way to pick up the toy hauler for a camping trip. The bed of truck is pitched at an angle - headed to body shop tomorrow to see if frame was damaged or if C pillar intrusion is fixable?
  • Sorry that is no fun. Glad the kids are ok. Looks like the ram held up well. Hope they were well insured.
  • Good to hear there were no major injuries.
It looks like you could drive your Ram from the scene?
