Class C rear ends a Ram 3500 Mega Cab

I, like I'm sure a few others on this forum, have a bit of experience being around crashes due to time spent as an EMT/Firefighter. It didn't take me long to figure out that bigger and heavier is almost always better. I'll gladly let a Honda Pilot beat themselves against the bumper of a 1 Ton any day of the week. 8000 lbs vs. 4000 lbs is a not even a fair fight. Sorry your experience was different, but every one of my vehicles is a full framed 6000 lb plus vehicle. I'll also add, how many people on this forum have passed away after being involved in crash in their HD pickup? I've been on this forum and other Ford sites for years and am not aware of a single fatality. I've seen pictures of many pretty terrible crashes, but the drivers and passengers all walked away with bumps and bruises so I'll take my chances in the heavier vehicle 100 percent of the time.

I agree, lets reverse the wreck, lets let him sit in that honda pilot, and have a large pickup hit him, and see how that comes out. I'll take my chances against a smaller car any day with my Ram 3500.

Will the title be a salvage title? after the repair, I thought that this only occurs when totaled. then rebuilt.

The value of the Ram before the crash is just a part of the equation. A Cummins/Aisin drivetrain with ECM, wiring, tank and pedals could easily be worth 10 - 15K all by themselves. I'll bet it's totaled.

First of course, glad everyone is OK. Second, is I'm sorry for your beautiful truck! That is a very valuable truck, and the Ins Co may want it fixed if the repair shop thinks they can do it for less than the value. If that's the case, make sure it's a shop that knows their stuff. Lastly, if they total it, it sucks for you to have to take the depreciation hit and start over with a new purchase. Just a case of bad luck that you unfortunately have to deal with. So here's wishing you good luck in the future.

I'm amazed that that old motorhome (looks like maybe a Holiday Rambler) and Ford van chassis took the hit much better than the Dodge...without crumpling like a triggered SJW whose safe space just got shattered and he/she/both lost his/her/both comfort poodle.

I'm pretty sure the fan and radiator are kissing in the shortened van nose. I wouldn't be surprised if the rear buckled where the receiver attached as the trailer tried to push it forward.

The loss of vehicles will be financially painful and inconvenient, but avoiding any major injuries that could follow you through the rest of your life is a blessing.

WOW ! Glad no one got hurt. I agree on the frame tweaking and like others, curious to see what your ins comp says. Another point about items in bed of truck BUT switching it to cars. If you have a box of Kleenex on rear window sill, that weighs about 8oz. At 30 MPH and sudden stop, that box now has the force/weight of 15 lbs as it's flying forward towards windshield. Just something to consider.
