The Power max converter supplies 12 volts DC from 120 volt shore power and charges the battery. Do you know what model you have? Please post if you do.
Depending on which model, it could have reverse polarity fuses on the end of it. These fuses could have blown.
Yes, you could disconnect the Powermax from the 120 volt connection, disconnect the 12 volt output and tape them up. Then buy a battery charger that will charge at least 10 amps more if you can find one.
Cost could be very close to a replacement converter. Call Randy at Best Converter.
The water heater uses 12 volts DC to operate the ignitor board.
Do you know what happened? Was it plugged into the correct receptacle voltage?
