Rv Techs are certified, but I have not run across anything that references any type of licensing such as certain contractors have to have. There are various trade schools, organizations, etc that conduct classes for certification and being certified can mean anything from a several month training course to sitting through a 4 hour seminar. I would think that for specialized equipment such as air conditioners, gas absorption fridges, and stoves, you would need to get certification from that manufacturer for their specific products. Training or certification does not necessarily mean competence or incompetence. I'm sure there are some very good techs out there who are self trained or have had OJT. I personally am self trained in Marine AirConditioning and also consider myself a competent marine electrician and have never been to anything other than a two day seminar at the factory where they showed your their product line, and I have operated a successful marine service business for over 15 years as a Dometic Service Center. When you pull your rig to the shop for repair, it's going to be the luck of the draw of who and what you get.
