Hearing a lot of buzz on the new line up. Seem to be orders taking off strong from what I have been reading. Want that diesel NOW !!! Hope I can get in one for 30ish ???

Your right the Suburban and Tahoe are house hold names and continue to outsell the competition.
Having said that, the newest GM offering here only provides a slight improvement in fuel economy in a smaller package vs. a full size truck so the real selling point has to be the bottom line $$$$ vs. a full size truck.
I see your logic and to a certain extent, agree. However there is a market for smaller trucks....compact or mid size like the Colorado and the now defunct Dodge Dakota and Ford Ranger.
My son purchased a new Colorado Z 71 in 2008. He liked the size and the off road 'stance'. The extended cab was also surprisingly roomy....even for me and I'm 6' 3" and 240 lbs. Very good leg and shoulder room.
With the passing of the Ford Ranger and Dodge Dakota there was a dearth of available options for those that prefer pickups, smaller than full size.
I think if GM plays this well and that if the 2.8 liter turbo diesel is both reasonable in cost and economical in operation then I think we could see a success story.
The other engines...the 2.9 lite DOHC 4 cyl. and the 3.6 liter DOHC V6 should do well. Both are engines that have good reputations.
