Well here we come... just traded in our 2013 Kodiak hybrid on a 2015 Jayco Eagle 314BHDS. from towing 23 feet to 37 feet... lord help me what the heck was i thinking?

It is not what your TV can pull, it is what your TV can carry. Add the weight of your family, toys, and essential stuff plus the tongue weight of the TT, and you will likely be over the maximum cargo limit of your half ton.
A simple trip to the CAT scales with your trailer loaded for travel will give you the hard numbers.
Your TV has a certain cargo and axle limits.
As far as TT size is concerned, it is just a matter of practice.
