Commercial vehicle insurance won't cover me hauling TT.help!

I own a landscaping company. My truck is under the commercial policy. I haul landscape trailers, plow snow, and haul tools and what not. The policy will not cover my truck if I haul a TT with it...which sucks because I just put a deposit down on a TT. I figured I might have to jump through some hoops, maybe modify a policy or what not but did not expect to get the "we can't do it" answer.

Anybody in a similar situation have an answer to my problems?

  • I'd suggest you speak with an insurance broker as opposed to the insurance co.'s agent.
Since you have commercial plates attached to a business you really don't want to lose the advantages of that set up.

Just call Good Sam and buy an insurance policy that will cover both your truck and trailer. You might not need your current commercial policy.

interesting...keep current policy and add a rider? I was going to shop RV insurance anyway. They'll do this?

I am guessing but I think you could keep your current insurance on the truck and just buy an insurance policy for your RV from Good Sam. I would also add the Good Sam Emergency Road Side Service so that Good Sam would tow both your truck and trailer at the same time

It won't cover the truck if you haul a TT, or it won't cover the truck/TT combo?

I'd believe that insurance wouldn't cover the TT, they usually are standalone policies or riders to your auto policy. I'd be surprised to if they didn't cover the truck. What was the excuse? Personal use?

not cover the truck. They said they weren't even interested in the policy. Nationwide if you're curious. They are ok if I use it to drive to Colorado for vacation for example, but as soon as I haul a TT I wouldn't be covered. So, here I am about to purchase one and now I'm screwed unless I figure it out. Can't switch it to a personal policy because I wouldn't be covered working...which isn't happening obviously.
