I'm thinking about buying a 2005 Chevy 2500 4WD Silverado Crew Cab LS Diesel. It has a Duramax Motor
All I know at this point is GVWR 9200, GAWR front 4670, GAWR rear 6084.
It will be pulling a Keystone Sprinter 333FL 5th Wheel. The Empty weight is 9526, Carrying Capacity is 3224, Hitch weight is 1875.
Between selling the house and buying a truck and 5th Wheel to go fulltime, My brain is fried trying to figure this out. Please Help
Will this truck pull and stop safely for us?
Well known issue with loaded 3/4 ton diesels of that age
Load up the truck and fiver, add a hitch and I suspect you will be significantly over GVWR of the truck. Loaded pin weight alone could exceed the truck capacity.
I suggest you need more truck to full-time with that fiver. The truck can PULL 15,000# but it can't CARRY the load of a larger fiver such as the one you are looking at.
How do I know? Look at my sig. Same truck except mine is 2WD, which adds 400# to the payload capacity. And I am close to max on payload with a 9600 GVWR fiver and 1800# loaded pin.
Check the black and yellow "Tire loading information" label on your door pillar for the total "occupant and cargo" rating.
As for the LLY engine overheating - very few trucks experienced it and only under extreme conditions.
