My extensive knowledge of diesel engines consists of knowing that you put diesel fuel in them rather than gasoline.
They tow effortlessly. They cost an extra ~$8000 as compared to a gas truck of the same size and brand. The oil changes are quite pricey, and they require DEF (diesel exhaust fluid). They are getting better, but the emissions systems typically don't do as well when used for short trips - they clog up.
