don't get a 2500 duramax.....get a srw 3500
Based on the GM towing guide for a Regular cab, SRW, diesel, 4X4 I would loose 100 pounds towing capacity by going to a 3500 vs. a 2500. For the added cost it doesn't make sense to me IMHO.
Diesels are way cheaper overall if you are doing serious towing. I would have broken 2 gas trucks by now and my 06 diesel is still just purring along. The cost per year of maintence on gas vs diesel is about the same. Diesel more per oil change but less of them
Your quote about towing capacity 3/4 vs 1 ton SRW is nothing but manufactures hype. With SRW vehicles your towing capacity will definitely be limited by payload. 1 ton SRW has more payload than a 3/4 ton therefor more towing capacity. With respect to TT&FW you can't get to the manufacturers towing capacity without exceeding axle ratings generally, with a flat bed trailer hualing bricks maybe but not an RV
Not to nitpick but I highly disagree; Ford's V10 and GM's 8.1L have reliability records that match or surpass that of diesels. Talked to a tow truck driver when gassing up a while back that had over 300,000mi on his 8.1L/Allison, and I know personally of V10's that have hit 300k without major repairs as well.
Do agree with everything else you wrote though :W
