Not in my case. I paid $7K in cash for my 99 F550 XLT with 7.3 powerstroke. For what I need it for it is far more economical than my gasser. 94 F350 with 460. Hauling and towing what I do I got 6 to 8 mpg. my powerstroke gets me 12 MPG.
Far more economical and easier to drive while hauling than my gasser.
I keep hearing opinions from those that have no experience to back up their statements.
I drive a diesel Dually because I need it to haul my 4000 lb cabover and cargo trailer, M105A3 that weighs in at 2700 empty, Up the hill to Flagstaff to Phoenix.
Was very tough in the gasser but a walk in the park in the diesel.
Here is I think another case of apples and oranges. I drove an early 99 for over 13 years. Sure it served me well, but I wonder about the statement of climbing mountains with ease. i now tow with a 6.2 gasser because it fits into my needs and budget. However I would never say that the ole 7.3 out performed the 6.2 on the road.
Gassers have a place - diesels have a place
It is a matter of weighing needs, affordability, practicality, and then sometimes whatever toots your horn. :B
