little,
getting some good advice here,
I have a 26ft Jayco bumper pull trailer.
I pull it with a 2005 dodge 2500 quad cab diesel. it pulls the trailer fine, with plenty of spare power, if and when needed.
it also has good heavy brakes, with a good quality brake controller I feel comfortable that I can stop the trailer,
the new trucks have more power than my old dodge, I have 310 hp and 625 lbs of torque.
when you are starting the load on a hill you need torque, like the big over the road trucks.
when some fool pulls out in front of you, you need all the braking power you can muster, the brake pads and rotors are much larger on my 2500 truck, than on the 1500 truck that I used to have.
would be nice if you could hook your potential new truck to the trailer and take it for a test drive up and down some hills.
making emergency starts up and emergency stops going down, then make your decision.
I have pulled many miles and some days, I just could not have enough power or braking ability for the situation.
the new trucks with the (Jake brake or engine compression brake option) are worth there weight in gold, when you are coming down the side of the mountain.
