Since taking possession of our TT, we've had it plugged in to shore power so that the AC could stay running. Down here in FL, its good to keep the AC going to help with mold/mildew, humidity, and smell. Unfortunately, the Dometic AC unit is the simple roof mounted ON/OFF variety, controlled only by the dials on the unit. It runs all the time, which has killed our utility bill. The thermostat mod is our effort to get this under control and give a little better comfort while using the TT. I followed the instructions in the thread referenced above, even buying the same exact relay. I did, however, purchase a simpler thermostat from Lowes...only because that's what was available at the time.
I did not install it the same as the guide thread, because the wiring for the existing furnace thermostat was not so easy to access. Instead, I installed the new digital thermostat in a new location very close to the breaker box (for simplicity of pulling wire). This meant I had to pull additional wires from the 12V power source to the thermostat. We don't have a huge need for the furnace, so I left it alone. However, in the near future, I do intend on abandoning the existing wiring for the furnace and re-routing it to the new thermostat.
I used 18-3 thermostat wire for my work, which allowed me to run power and control all at once.
Though the thread above is quite comprehensive for that method of install, I'm happy to help anyone who has any questions regarding my method of install. Just PM me and I'll be happy to assist.
