The real reason was to avoid scraping in both gas stations and off rod. Airstreams sit low, and the 30'ers come awfully close to the ground just on a slanted driveway. I have a lifted tow vehicle, but it has a drop hitch, so that wasn't affecting it.
Here in Utah, my favorite places to camp require a dirt road, and a lot of the gas stations we've been to cause the rear drag bars on the trailer to scrape.
Here we discussed some of the pros and cons. If you don't scrape, don't lift it; there's no reason to. If you get off the beaten path and you find yourself scraping, it's one of the best things you can do in my opinion.
