We have always closed up all windows and vents. The amount of dust and dirt is far more inconvenient than the unit being hot for a few minutes. Our routine was to back in, immediately hook up the shore power and turn on A/C, finish the leveling and stabilizers + other jobs. By the time we had those done, the rug and chairs out the inside was very comfy. There was a recent thread about running the A/C while traveling and IIRC, there were issues doing that. If you need to get into the trailer while traveling, if it's something you can tend to, suggest you just do it and avoid the dust and dirt.
