I run with the vents cracked. I close everything once I get up on the rim where it is cool and the dirt roads start.
I ran my motorhome with the genny running and the roof airs, but in the truck, we're nice and cool.
If we go somewhere hot, the I just turn it on when we get there. It only takes 15 min to get it comfortable, but I have a 15K Carrier in a 25' TT with Foamcore exterior walls, and I keep foil coated polyviso panels in my windows while the camper is stored and driving. It is amazing how much heat they block. It's like a big rolling cooler.
