In the eight years we've used Maxxair vent covers, we've never had problems with dust or rain coming in through the ceiling vents. We travel during summer with the ceiling vents wide open in the SW US, sometimes going down some really dusty roads. If it's over 100 outside, it really helps to keep the interior from becoming superheated.
