When they put the nitrogen in, they pulled a slight vacuum on the tire. Then used their machine to refill. At least that is what I was told. When I did return to have a bit more added, they do have a machine that is different from the normal air compressor.
As far as BS on the nitrogen, I have noticed changes in the tire pressure according to my tpms after a couple of hours of highway driving and monitoring it during the drive. It is about 4# less pressure. I also use a digital thermometer and the tires are several degrees cooler after stopping.
Perhaps, it is just a mental thing, but it gives me a peace of mind with the nitrogen in the tires.
I drive a tractor trailer and the company fills their trailer tires with Nitrogen with good results concerning blowouts in the summer heat. Maybe they are just pretending it works also. I have read several articles touting this and for the most part they have been positive. Must be something to it.
