Cost of food while camping ... does it have to be high?

Depending if we are close to home or not. I usually just take the food, that we would have eaten if we were still at home. One favorite campground has a nice, close-by, old-time grocery store, I like to go there to check out their selection. We never eat at restaurants when we are 'just camping'. If we are using the TT to visit relatives, then the spending starts!
We bring our dogs, and they usually eat better at the campsite then they do at home! Biggest expenses are the fuel/turnpike/campground fees.
