Cost of food while camping ... does it have to be high?

We are principally weekend campers since I have every other Friday off and I try and get to some place closer than say 4 hours away on one of those long weekends per month. For us, the (extra) cost...

I gave up a microwave about 6 years ago. I often wondered about those first microwaves and just how safe they were. Some peoples always seemed to have a leak around the seal. Now I got thyroid cancer, I really don't want another. The one in the TT is used to store muffins, LOL
