Cost of food while camping ... does it have to be high?

We eat while camping like we eat at home. In order to save weight we don't bring food from home. We just locate nearby grocery stores (not convenience stores/camping stores). It rarely costs significantly more or less than it does at home, except in Canada. When we go to Canada we budget more for food and fuel.
