The cover is a huge pain to put on & off, but for the years we had our camper parked in a shady, protected spot in a snowy climate, we thought it was worth it as well. Where it's parked now, it's not shaded and is fully exposed to wind, and from what we have heard here, we figured a cover would potentially cause more damage than it would prevent. Just something to consider.
If you do decide to keep & use the cover, definitely make sure to pad the sharper edges & appendages on the camper's roof & around the top edge - things like spouts for water, edges of the awning track, etc. - before you put the cover on. It will save wear & tear on the cover. Some people use pieces of swim noodles; we used a concoction of old socks, rubber bands and duct tape. :)
