My CPAP machine runs on 12v off of a brick. The manufacturer sells a 12v cord with a cigarette lighter style plug. I bought one and installed a 12v outlet on my bedframe. I can run my machine whether or not we have 120v power to plug into. If boondocking, it is much more power efficient than using an inverter to go from 12v to 120v then back to 12v. My personal estimate of the power loss is 50% of the power the unit requires. My CPAP is fused for 8 amps, so I will call it an 8 amp machine. My estimate is it pulls 12 amps from the battery to get 8 amps to run. Like I said, very inefficient. If you never boondock though, and always have 120v available, this doesn't apply to you.
