- spadoctorExplorer IILook for a "community chartered" credit union. Those are the ones that you need to EITHER work, live, worship or go to school in the area of their charter.
Try this link....select federally insured state credit union...enter zip code..and select community charter

- Doug33ExplorerAs a kid I used to be able to have a great account with the Teacher's Credit Union because he was a teacher.
- jus2shyExplorerAs mentioned earlier, you need to have some sort off affiliation with a credit union. Some credit unions only require residency in a specific city/town/county. Some credit unions require being affiliated with a company, occupation or association. There are quite a myriad of ways to get into a credit union.
I for one love them. They tend to have lower borrowing rates than banks, especially if you have great credit. Also far more reasonable fees for the services they provide. Wish I knew this when I was a teenager. I'd never have started with a bank (which seems to find every opportunity to charge you for something, and charge you horrendous amounts). - DutchmenSportExplorerIn order to be a member of a credit union, you need to have some kind of association with that credit union "feature". For example, a firefighter's credit union would be open for firemen, children of firemen, retired firemen, wifes of firemane, parents of fireman. You get the idea.
So, not knowing what kind of "affiliation" you might have with any of them, here's a good startling list. Click on any Credit Union listed and learn more: Click here.
