I do something pretty similar. I have a larger than average bench vise, so anything larger than 12ga I put in my bench vise and squeeze it down, then solder with a 400 watt gun.
If it's really large, as with my 3kw inverter, I used 0/4 and crimped in the vise, but then had to use a 1500watt radiator soldering iron. I also use a butane torch to solder the really big stuff, just depends on the application.
