Not the point about self driving Tesla because it has a driver controls as well. This has no driver controls such as a steering wheel, brake and gas pedal.
Self driving is already here. From the TESLA website:
Full Self-Driving Capability
Navigate on Autopilot: automatic driving from highway on-ramp to off-ramp including interchanges and overtaking slower cars.
Auto Lane Change: automatic lane changes while driving on the highway.
Autopark: both parallel and perpendicular spaces.
Summon: your parked car will come find you anywhere in a parking lot. Really.
Coming later this year: Recognize and respond to traffic lights and stop signs.
Automatic driving on city streets. - azdryheatExplorerSelf driving is already here. From the TESLA website:

Human drivers kill thousands every year, but we somehow live with that.
We'll all be dead before this technology really takes hold, so it doesn't matter.
All part of human nature. Yes, human error kills tens of thousands per year, but if self driving cars malfunction and kill 100 per year they will be branded unsafe. Case in point- a software problem with the 737 Max caused two crashes, killing around 350 people. Despite transporting 6.5 million passengers safely in one year, the aircraft is grounded indefinitely.
For some reason we find it acceptable for human error to cause accidents and kill people, but unacceptable for a tech malfunction to cause accidents, even at a much lower rate.
The plane was great until some $9 per hour software was implemented. That's when the problems started and killed a bunch of people. There was no problem with the plane or the pilots. It was the software that caused this accident. And they found more problems with the software today after they were going to release the planes for service. Boeing finds more bogus software in 737 max X.
Who is to say that the same poorly written software for cars won't kill 100,000 per year? Are you willing to play Russian roulette with your family with poorly written $9 / hour software?
Here is what poorly written software will do. Notice that the brake lights were on from A to Z. If you watch the video on this you will notice the car sure does not slow down much if at all.
I'm just glad this was not my 12 year old daughter. :( 2oldman wrote:

When the highway death toll drops to insignificant numbers, when tailgating and road rage are a thing of the past, when speeding doesn't exist, you will wish this happened sooner.
That sounds like a world that does not exist. As long as there is a "RAT RACE" those things will not go away...
But it does sound like a nice place ! :C
