Local Ram dealer quoted me $429.00 for replace the front and rear filters on my 2016 CTD. I was expecting about $150-$200. Dealer said, "we charge 2 hours labor for that job".Looks like I'm going to do this easy job it myself. You can get both genuine Mopar filters off Amazon for $70 for the pair and after watching a number of Youtub videos on the subject, it looks like it would take less than an hour if you were very slow. It looks like an experience tech who does a lot of these could do both in about 30 minutes.Not slamming the local dealer, they've got to make money too but that price sounded a bit high.

Yes, the same here. Because the truck was in a shop (not the dealer) for some work, I had them change the fuel filters. They charged me about $70 for the filters. When I saw that I got after them. They told me that's what Ford charged them. I went down to the Ford dealer and bought one for $40 and I know that the parts houses give them a shop price that was even better. I came back with the filter and receipt - made them refund the difference in the cost. I now buy mine off of Amazon also.Bill

I don't care if the RAM dealer charges $200 for the 2 filters themselves; that is their right and it's also your right to shop around. I took issue with the dealer telling me with a straight face that it's a 2 hour job. It's no harder than changing 2 oil filters IMO.

The back one is a little tougher than an oil filter simply because I always seem to end up with diesel running down into my armpit but it sure isn't a two hour job. More like 20 to 30 minutes total for both.

Oh a pc of tubing to extend drain bucket.For the rear a filter strap wrench, Lisle 6 point wrench to remove sensor and drain hose.Start to finish 30-45min for both with proper tools. I change both of my fuel filters and it takes me longer to find my tools than it does to replace them. My Ram dealer charges crazy prices for this also and I just laugh. I get mine on amazon also.

Isn't the EGR cooler supposed to be cleaned as well? Thats a fairly involved job.

Amazon is definitely your friend for these types of repairs. Dealer quoted me $500+ to do the crankcase vent filter replacement and egr valve cleaning recommended at 67,500 miles. Everything is located top of engine. Easiest diy you'll ever do. Cost me about $80 to do it myself.

A guy on youtube had the idea to extend the front filter hose with clear tubing (36" long) to replace the stock hose. This allows you to drain the filter in a pan without fuel going all over the chassis with the short stock hose. Looks like a good idea. Getting ready to change the filters next weekend.

MeAgain gave me a pc of hose that fits snugly inside the front hose extending it down to hang in a container on the ground. The same hose will slip over the water drain on the back filter. Maybe he can chime in on the hose size.

FYI a 28MM 6 point will also work.

Glad you mentioned the 28mm, although not a lot of difference, it is a better fit . Only reason to use a 1*1/8 six point socket is if you have one, would not even consider one if buying , I would get the 28mm.

I will be changing mine this coming week and will check out hose size. Just ordered replacements for under the back seat when I use the ones there now. Got to do an oil change in June and the 30K tranny fuild service for the Aisin. You back in the NW? Chris

The guy on youtube just replaced the factory drain hose with a longer piece of 1/2" ID tubing, he used a piece about 36" long. I think he said he used 3/8" for the rear filter. Looks pretty easy.

When I bought my 2005 Ram(used) I took it to the dealer for service .They changed the fuel filter and charged me $100. When I complained they reduced by $25. So I watched on utube and the time to change a filter including making the video was about 5 minutes. So the dealer lost a customer and I saved about $85 per change. To me that is simply dishonest.No wonder they are referred to as "stealership"

My Texas "country" dealer charges $11 labor for a oil change. I bring my own filter and oil. Can't remember what the fuel filters labor is. But it dang sure ain't $400. I watch them do my service and they change the fuel filters in 15 minutes max. I'm pretty sure there would be choice words back for that $400 quote, maybe more than words.

The spout from a DEF jug works good to slip over the drain tube on that front hose. I have one I keep in my shop just for that purpose.
