If you leave the Cummins stock it will never allow itself to get too hot. It will defuel if temps ever got high enough. The only temp you need to worry about is turbo EGT's. The manual tells you to let the turbo cool down for a couple minutes after a hot haul. Generally for me, that means I just leave the truck running while I refuel and I leave the truck running while I disconnect the camper.
Not trying to high-jack a thread here. This got me curious I know refueling a gas engine while running will trigger a CEL. I hate shutting mine down while refueling just for the reason you mentioned. But I been skittish to leave it run thinking I might get a CEL. I take it you have never had that issue while fueling?
The tank on a diesel in not sealed like a gas engine. I did 850 miles a few weeks back and never shut the truck off. The tank on the Ram is vented not sealed, that is what caused the CEL on a gas engine.
