Time you seem up on the tech side of this stuff. Why does Tesla use one induction and one permanent magnet motor. Gotta be some pros and cons there. Is Jag doing that as well?
I believe having both is an efficiency advantage. The induction makes more power, less efficient but can be turned off completely. PM motor is more efficient but needs to be on all the time and uses the dreaded rare earth metals to make the super magnets. So I believe the PM motor goes in front and will be utilized more during light load cruising and the induction goes in the rear for maximum power when needed. The computer will change the front/rear bias electronically as best suited for the situation. To my knowledge only Tesla has utilized this technology and the vehicles are on top of the EPA efficiency list.
