What a great trip and trip report! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've done a fair amount of backpacking through the years but we never made it out this summer....not counting canoe camping....your TR is a good reminder of what we missed. It sure looks like you chose the right time of year and with the shutdown, a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the river devoid of people and boats. And good on you for inviting a forum member.
Mike - good job! Sounds like you did a great job of what many people don't do, preparing! Having learned a new skill and an "I can do this" attitude think of all the places that open up to you exploring outward on foot from your camper....even just one overnight away from the camper.
