Some differentials use a friction material for limited slip that will discolor the oil quicker. Unless you have differential issues or noise or you have contaminated the oil by driving through flooded areas, you should be able to follow the owner manual or axle manufacturer specifications for oil changes.
Not sure about light on the brakes makes the fluid last longer. Brake fluid attracts moisture whether you are using the brakes or the truck is sitting in the garage and moisture in the fluid reduces the boiling point and reduction of the boiling point cause brake fade when and if the brakes are used aggressively.
